How insurance billing actually works here
Takes insurance can mean two very different things. Some programs bill your plan for the clinical visits but leave the medication as a separate pharmacy claim; others handle prior authorization for the drug itself, which is where the real money is, since brand-name GLP-1s retail over $1,000 a month. Before you sign up, ask which of the two the program does, and whether they run your benefits check before or after you pay a membership fee.
If your plan excludes GLP-1s for weight loss, which is still common, a cash-pay program can genuinely be cheaper than fighting for coverage. Prescription GLP-1s are also generally HSA and FSA eligible, so pre-tax dollars apply even without insurance approval. Our cost calculator on the comparison page factors both routes.
